Like many watch bloggers, I originally did not set out to create a giant web site about watches. I simply wanted a place to publish my thoughts as I learned about watches and collecting them. In a way, it was like learning in a very public forum. Because I did not want to get mired down by the extra hassle of creating a custom web site, I used Google’s free Blogger software. That platform served me for almost 3 years, but I was never really happy with it.
Being an internet junky, I ingest a lot of web sites and I knew that there were some really great watch blogs that looked better, performedย better and made mine look like it had a Member’s Only jacket when everyone else was wearing a tux. If you never saw it or don’t remember, here is a reminder. Admittedly, it was not great… kinda like being inside of a Victorian Manor.
About a month ago, I must have fallen and hit my head because I decided to rebuild the Watch Hunter web site in as short a time as possible. It had always been my plan toย rebuild, but it was going to happen over a long period, not in an insane 3-week build. I have a day job so much of the work had to happen on weekends and very late nights with 2 am being the cutoff before my dog would reprimand me about bed time.
I should mention that I was not exactly sure how I was going to make it so that accounts for the seeming long period of time to convertย roughly 75 articles, almost 1000 photos and program the cool stuff that I had always wanted on my site. Not only that, the sins of my early blogging career had a lot of sloppy work so I fixed those errors along the way renaming every image, fixing incorrect info, typos, grammar etc. Where captions did not exist on the old web site, I wrote them. In fact, I wrote hundreds of ALT TAGS, descriptions, meta data and all the other behind-the-scenes minutia that many people do not know or care about.
I did this to make finding articles on the new web site much easier than before. Lord help you if you ever wanted to find a particular article on the old Blogger site. You could do it, but it could be frustrating. Now, there is a built-in search engine on the site. Just hit the magnifying glass icon in the top nav bar and type what you are looking for. Also, Google should pick up the articles better if you are searching from outside of the site.
I also painstakinglyย built a way to get to the watch reviews that you want. Under the Watch Reviews tab, you will find reviews organizedย by brand, type of watch and type of movement. Victorinox Swiss Army gets its own tab and an additional break down into specific model families. If you want to see all the reviews at once, just hit the top level Watch Reviewsย tab.
You will also find that there is other content on Watch Hunter that does not fall under the category of watch reviews. These categories are Media Reviews, Buy-Sell-Trade, Watch Topics, Photo Galleries and Info. You can see some of the others on the home apge menu. I encourage you to explore those and see what you find.
I believe that a good web design should not need that much explanation, so please take a look around. If you see any errors, please let me know via my Contact page. And lastly, make sure to subscribe to be notified of the latest articles and reviews. I really appreciate the support and interest that I have received so far and thank each of you who takes the time to read the site.
